Orland Park, IL – Residents in Orland Park will have a chance to safely dispose of unused prescription medications next weekend as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at preventing misuse and environmental harm.
According to the Orland Park Police Department, the event will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Orland Park Police Department in Cook County, southwest of Chicago.
The effort is part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Takeback Day, which encourages communities across the country to turn in unneeded medications for proper disposal.
Officials say all unused or expired prescription medications will be accepted, with the exception of liquid medications and needles. The program is designed to reduce the risk of accidental poisoning, misuse, and improper disposal that can impact local water systems.
Residents are encouraged to bring medications they no longer need and drop them off anonymously during the designated hours. No appointment is required.
Local law enforcement agencies often partner with federal and community organizations during these events to provide a safe and convenient way for residents to clear out medicine cabinets.
Authorities say events like this play a key role in addressing public health concerns related to prescription drug abuse while promoting safe disposal practices.
