Bakersfield, CA – Grimmway Farms has recalled several brands and sizes of bagged organic carrots, including products sold at Target, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, due to potential contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli.

The recall includes baby organic carrots with best-if-used-by dates ranging from Sept. 11 to Nov. 12, 2024, and whole organic carrots sold in stores from Aug. 14 to Oct. 23, 2024. Affected brands include 365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Wegmans, Sprouts, and more. Grimmway Farms urges consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for these products and dispose of them immediately.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, surfaces and items that may have come into contact with the recalled carrots should be cleaned thoroughly using hot soapy water or a dishwasher. Businesses are advised to stop selling or serving the products and sanitize storage and preparation areas.

Symptoms of E. coli infection include severe stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting, which typically begin 3 to 4 days after exposure. In rare cases, complications such as kidney failure may occur. Those experiencing severe symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.

Consumers can visit Grimmway Farms’ website or the FDA recall page for a complete list of affected products and further guidance.
