Sacramento, CA – A Cold Weather Advisory will take effect Monday night for areas above 6,000 feet in Northern California. Temperatures are expected to drop sharply, creating dangerous conditions for people, pets, and plants.

The National Weather Service forecasts lows between 5 and 15 degrees in the Sierra Nevada, including Lassen Park and the West Slope. Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks could see temperatures dip as low as 2 degrees. Wind chills may fall to 5 below zero in higher elevations.

The advisory begins at 10 p.m. Monday and lasts through 10 a.m. Tuesday. Residents and visitors should wear layers and limit outdoor activities. Officials warn of frostbite and hypothermia if exposed skin is left unprotected.

Travelers in affected areas should prepare for icy roads and potential delays. Protecting pets, plants, and heating systems is also crucial during this cold snap.

This advisory comes as part of a larger weather pattern expected to bring mountain snow and freezing rain throughout the week.
