Sunriver, OR – A winter storm is bringing heavy snow and freezing rain to the Oregon Cascades, creating hazardous travel conditions through Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. PST Saturday for the east slopes of the Oregon Cascades, including Sunriver, Sisters, Camp Sherman, and La Pine. Snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are expected, with the heaviest snowfall near the mountain crests.

In addition to snowfall, winds gusting up to 45 mph could cause blowing snow and reduce visibility, making travel difficult. Freezing rain is also forecasted for lower elevations, including the Columbia Basin and the Yakima and Kittitas Valleys.

Drivers are urged to use caution, as slick roads and poor visibility may lead to dangerous conditions. Authorities recommend checking TripCheck.com or calling 511 for real-time road updates.

Residents should prepare for potential power outages due to falling tree branches and stay indoors if possible. The storm is expected to ease by late Saturday afternoon.
