Pendleton, OR – A winter storm is bringing heavy snow and freezing rain to the Pacific Northwest, impacting travel in Oregon’s Northern Blue Mountains and Washington’s Northwest Blue Mountains through Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, snowfall totals could reach 6 to 12 inches above 4,000 feet, with gusty winds up to 35 mph causing blowing and drifting snow. Lower elevations, including Meacham along I-84, may see 3 to 5 inches of accumulation. Light freezing rain is also expected in the Columbia Basin and Yakima Valley.
The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, with low visibility and slick roads. Strong winds could also cause tree damage and power outages. Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution when traveling through the region.
