Medford, OR — A winter storm will bring heavy snow and strong winds to the southern Oregon Cascades from 10 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Monday, making travel hazardous across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, snowfall totals are expected between 10 and 20 inches, with up to 30 inches possible near Crater Lake. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, reducing visibility and creating dangerous road conditions.
Affected areas include highways 138, 230, 62, and 140 near Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, and Lake of the Woods. Snow-covered roads are likely, especially from late Saturday night through Sunday morning and again from sunset Sunday until Monday afternoon. Snowfall rates may reach an inch per hour late Sunday afternoon through Sunday night.
Drivers should expect difficult travel, especially during the Sunday and Monday morning commutes. Officials advise carrying an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water. For the latest road conditions, call 511 or visit tripcheck.com.
