Portland, OR – A late-season cold snap is expected to bring frost across northwest Oregon and parts of southwest Washington through Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday for the Portland Metro hills, the Tualatin Valley, the Central and Southern Willamette Valley, and surrounding areas. Temperatures are forecast to drop as low as 34°F, posing a threat to sensitive outdoor vegetation.

The advisory also includes portions of the Oregon Coast Range and Cascade Foothills, along with the Willapa Hills, Columbia River Gorge above 500 feet, and parts of North Clark and Cowlitz Counties in Washington. Rural and shaded regions, particularly in Lane, Linn, and Benton Counties, are expected to be most vulnerable to frost accumulation.

Residents are urged to take action to protect sensitive plants. Officials recommend covering vegetation with breathable fabric or bringing potted plants indoors overnight.

Frost events in April are not unusual in Oregon’s interior valleys but can still catch gardeners and farmers off guard. Cooler air settling overnight under clear skies is a known trigger for rapid temperature drops in low-lying areas.
