Pendleton, OR – Residents across Central and Eastern Oregon can expect a shift toward drier, cooler weather heading into the weekend, with the return of sunshine Friday but also the potential for freezing overnight temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, daytime highs will remain seasonably mild in the 60s and 70s across most of the region. However, overnight lows are forecast to dip into the low to mid-30s starting Friday, October 3, through the weekend. This brings a 40–60% chance of the first fall freeze for parts of Central Oregon and Wallowa County, particularly in higher terrain valleys and sheltered areas.
The seven-day outlook shows cities including Bend, La Grande, and John Day topping out in the mid-60s by day while facing significantly colder nights. Yakima and Walla Walla will stay slightly warmer, with highs in the 70s and lows in the upper 30s.
Despite the chillier conditions, fire danger is expected to remain low thanks to cooler temperatures and light winds. The drier weather pattern marks a notable shift from recent unsettled conditions, giving residents a stretch of clearer skies and calmer weather to look forward to.
The National Weather Service advises those in frost-prone areas to prepare gardens and outdoor plants for the potential freeze this weekend.
