Eugene, OR – Cold overnight temperatures are triggering a Frost Advisory across Western Oregon, threatening outdoor plants and spring crops through Friday morning.

Residents in Eugene and throughout the Willamette Valley should take immediate precautions to protect sensitive vegetation, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 33°F by dawn Friday. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, remains in effect until 9 a.m. PDT Friday, April 4.

According to the NWS Portland office, the frost risk extends across Central and Southern Willamette Valley, Tualatin Valley, and Upper Hood River Valley, including major cities like Portland, Salem, Albany, and Springfield. These areas are under threat due to calm overnight winds and clear skies—prime conditions for surface-level frost.

Sensitive plants should be covered with light cotton fabric or brought indoors tonight. Even light frost can cause damage or death to unprotected vegetation.

Weekend Spring Weather Outlook:

  • Friday: Sunny after morning frost, high near 67°F. Winds remain calm.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny with a springlike high near 73°F.
  • Sunday: Cooler and wet—expect rain with highs near 63°F.
  • Monday-Tuesday: Cloudy and rainy start to the week, highs in the mid-50s.

Drivers along I-5 between Eugene and Portland may encounter foggy conditions overnight and during the early morning commute. Motorists should use caution on bridges and overpasses, where frost can develop more quickly.
