Lane County, OR – Early in the morning on April 7, Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue (SAR) volunteers joined Oakridge Police in a search for two missing juveniles. The teens had gone out to explore the woods the day before but had planned to return in the evening.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the juveniles became stranded when their vehicle broke down in Box Canyon. SAR volunteers successfully located the teens and returned them to their families unharmed.
The Sheriff’s Office shared several tips for outdoor safety in the area. They advise explorers to always inform someone of their plans, check conditions before heading out, and be prepared for emergencies, including the possibility of staying overnight. With unpredictable weather and limited cell service in remote areas like Box Canyon, SAR recommends bringing offline maps for navigation.
