Pendleton, OR – A total lunar eclipse will be visible across the Pacific Northwest tonight, lasting into the early hours of Friday morning. While some areas may experience cloud cover, portions of Oregon and Washington may have clear enough skies to witness the celestial event.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the eclipse will begin at 9:53 p.m. PDT, with the total eclipse phase occurring from 11:26 p.m. to 12:53 a.m. The peak of the eclipse will be at 11:59 p.m. PDT. The event will conclude with the partial eclipse ending at 1:48 a.m. and the penumbral phase wrapping up at 2:22 a.m.
Viewing conditions will vary across the region. While widespread cloud cover is expected over much of Oregon and Washington, residents in parts of the Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley, the Foothills of the Blue Mountains, and Kittitas Valley may have better visibility.
Unlike solar eclipses, a total lunar eclipse can be safely viewed with the naked eye. For the best experience, experts recommend finding a location away from city lights and checking local forecasts for cloud coverage updates.
Skywatchers in the Pacific Northwest should prepare for late-night viewing and dress warmly as temperatures are expected to drop during the event.
