Portland, OR – Wet conditions will continue to dominate the Portland area this week as residents brace for more rain and fog through the weekend. A slight chance of rain early Wednesday gives way to cloudy skies, but heavier rainfall and fog are forecast for later this week, posing challenges for commuters and travelers.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy rain is likely overnight into Thursday, with light winds reaching 6 to 8 mph. By Saturday, rain chances will peak at 80%, and highs will hover in the low 50s, making it essential for residents to prepare for wet and slick roads.
The Grays River near Rosburg in Wahkiakum County has already crested at 31.8 feet early Wednesday morning, well above the 28.5-foot flood stage. Authorities predict the river will fall below flood levels by 4 p.m. Wednesday, but residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways.
Looking ahead to the five-day forecast, the weekend appears wet and cloudy. Thursday will see mostly dry conditions with highs near 55°F, followed by a 20% chance of rain late Thursday night. On Friday, light rain remains a possibility, and wind speeds will gradually increase. Heavier rainfall is anticipated Saturday and Sunday, with cooler overnight lows dipping into the mid-40s.
Travelers and commuters should remain cautious, as visibility may be reduced during morning fog, and wet conditions will persist. The National Weather Service advises keeping headlights on during fog and monitoring local updates for potential flood impacts or delays.
