Eureka, CA – Heavy winds and significant rainfall are forecast to impact Northern California this weekend, bringing potential hazards to Del Norte and Humboldt counties. Residents and travelers should prepare for gusts exceeding 50 mph on Saturday, particularly along coastal headlands and exposed ridges, as well as widespread rain that could cause travel delays.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds will arrive Saturday afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph or higher. These conditions pose risks for downed trees, power outages, and hazardous driving, especially along Highway 101 and other exposed roadways. Rainfall is expected to total 1-4 inches across the region, with the King Range and Del Norte County mountains seeing the highest amounts.

Periods of rain will persist into Sunday, though winds are forecast to ease slightly. Residents should clear gutters, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind periods. Drivers are urged to remain cautious and monitor road conditions closely, as wet roads and debris could create unsafe travel scenarios.

Looking ahead to next week, the extended forecast predicts additional rain starting Monday, continuing through midweek. Thursday will bring a brief reprieve, with partly sunny skies and highs near 63 degrees. By Friday, another system moves in, bringing breezy conditions and a 30% chance of rain during the day.

Saturday’s storm will mark the most impactful weather event of the week, with residents strongly advised to stay informed through updated forecasts and weather alerts.
