Eugene, OR – Two individuals were arrested Monday morning after allegedly attempting to break into an undercover police vehicle in Eugene’s River Road area.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on August 13 when detectives, who were working in the area, noticed suspicious activity near their unoccupied vehicle. A nearby detective observed two people, later identified as Melissa Marie Jones, 42, and Trinidad Robert Perez, Jr., 61, appearing to case cars in the parking lot.

Jones reportedly produced a key and attempted to open a door of the undercover police vehicle while Perez acted as a lookout. Detectives quickly intervened, detaining both suspects.

Further investigation revealed Jones was wanted on an out-of-state warrant, leading to her arrest for Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle and as a Fugitive from Justice. Perez, who also faced charges for Unlawful Entry, was additionally arrested for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Both suspects were lodged at the Lane County Jail.

This incident underscores the risks of criminal activity in Eugene, where law enforcement remains vigilant in protecting public safety.
