Pittsburgh, PA – A woman died and a man was injured after a fire broke out Tuesday night at the Riverview Manor apartment complex on Letort Street in Pittsburgh.
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, firefighters responded to the 1500 block of Letort Street around 8:15 p.m. Crews located a female victim in cardiac arrest inside one of the units. She was extricated and pronounced dead at the scene.
A second victim, a male, suffered a wrist laceration during the incident and was treated by medical personnel. His condition was not immediately disclosed.
Emergency Management officials were dispatched to the building to help coordinate housing and support for residents displaced by the fire. Building management and city responders worked together to secure temporary accommodations overnight. Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
“I’m sure there will be displacements. I don’t have to the extent, but it’ll mainly be on the fire floor itself,” said Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Assistant Chief Mathew Davis. “There’s no major damage to the building itself.”
No further details on the extent of the damage or the number of residents displaced were released as of early Wednesday.
The apartment complex, identified as Riverview Manor in images shared by authorities, was surrounded by emergency crews as residents were assisted outside. Officials said more information will be provided as the investigation continues.
