Omaha, Nebraska – Thunderstorms packing quarter-size hail and 60 mph winds could sweep across central Nebraska Sunday evening, bringing a heightened threat of severe weather for residents from Grand Island to Norfolk.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms is in effect, with the strongest activity likely from late afternoon through the night. The primary hazards include damaging hail, strong gusts, and the possibility of one or two tornadoes, especially along the Highway 81 corridor and extending into northeast Nebraska.

Communities in Hall, Platte, and Madison counties should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. Power outages, downed tree limbs, and difficult travel are possible on I-80, US-30, and surrounding rural roads as storms move through. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and stay tuned to local alerts. If you live in a mobile home or vulnerable structure, have a safe shelter plan in place.

Showers and storms may redevelop overnight as the system shifts northeast. Additional advisories are possible into Monday morning. Stay weather-aware, as warnings could be issued with little notice through the late hours.
