Omaha, NE – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Nebraska and western Iowa from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening, bringing the potential for blizzard conditions, strong winds, and dangerous travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, the storm could produce total snow accumulations of two to six inches across east-central, northeast, and southeast Nebraska, as well as parts of southwest and west-central Iowa. Wind gusts may reach 50 to 60 mph, creating whiteout conditions and making travel extremely hazardous.
Blizzard conditions are possible in counties including Douglas, Sarpy, Lancaster, and Washington in Nebraska, along with Pottawattamie and Mills counties in Iowa. Further north, Wayne, Boone, and Madison counties are also under a Winter Storm Watch, with snowfall expected between two and five inches.
The storm’s strong winds and heavy snowfall could lead to downed power lines and sporadic outages, as well as significantly reduced visibility with travel delays likely.
Officials urge residents to prepare for rapidly deteriorating conditions and reconsider travel plans. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies, including blankets, food, and water. The National Weather Service advises monitoring updates for the latest information on the storm’s development.
