Minneapolis, MN – A powerful winter storm is set to bring blizzard conditions to much of the Midwest beginning late Tuesday night, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to make travel hazardous across multiple states.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will impact areas of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas. Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible in many locations, with isolated areas in the Black Hills and Sierra Madre Range seeing more than a foot of snow. Winds could gust between 35 and 60 mph, leading to whiteout conditions and dangerous travel.

Southern Minnesota, including cities such as Mankato, Red Wing, and Albert Lea, is at high risk for blizzard conditions, with snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour expected. Similarly, parts of Nebraska and Iowa, including Omaha and Sioux City, may see near-zero visibility due to blowing and drifting snow.

The storm will begin as rain late Tuesday before transitioning to snow overnight. The heaviest snowfall is expected during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes, posing significant travel risks. Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare emergency kits with essentials such as food, water, and warm clothing.

As the storm approaches, residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and road conditions. Those with travel plans should consider delaying trips or taking alternative routes to avoid hazardous conditions.
