Nebraska wakes under a pale winter sky as cold air settles across the Omaha metro, stretching into southwest Iowa. Headlights glow through pockets of haze, and damp pavement hints at changing conditions ahead.

Early this morning, temperatures sit in the upper 20s around Omaha and Carter Lake. Winds remain light, allowing patchy fog to develop again later today and into Monday morning. In some locations, visibility may dip below one mile, especially near rivers and low-lying areas.

Drivers along I-80, I-480, and Highway 75 should stay alert during the early commute windows. Fog can thicken quickly, and slick spots may form where moisture freezes after sunset. Plan extra time and use low beams when visibility drops.

Conditions improve as Monday progresses. Clouds break at times, and highs rebound into the low 50s. Any lingering fog fades by late morning, easing travel concerns across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Tuesday brings a brighter shift. Sunshine dominates, and temperatures climb into the low to mid-50s. It feels noticeably milder, though winter remains close at hand once the sun sets.

By Wednesday, highs approach the upper 50s with calm winds. Another quiet travel day is expected, though clouds increase Wednesday night. A weak system may bring a chance of rain late Thursday into Friday, with a brief rain–snow mix possible as colder air returns.

Meteorologists caution that while this week stays relatively calm, the broader Midwest remains on track for more active winter weather later in January. Heavier snow potential increases after mid-month, especially across the central Plains and Great Lakes.

Daylight continues to improve too. By late January, Omaha gains nearly 40 extra minutes of evening light, helping afternoons feel less rushed.
