Tulsa, OK — A widespread flood threat is developing across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas as a powerful storm system brings heavy rainfall through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Forecast models project 2 to 6 inches of rainfall across the region, with localized totals reaching up to 8 inches. The heaviest rain is expected between Friday evening and early Monday morning.

Cities including Tulsa, Bartlesville, Muskogee, and McAlester are expected to see 3 to 6 inches of rain, while Miami and Fayetteville could see similar amounts. Areas along the Arkansas River and other low-lying zones are especially vulnerable to flash flooding and river rises.

Residents should monitor local alerts and be prepared to move to higher ground. Officials advise keeping emergency kits ready, avoiding travel through flooded roadways, and staying informed via NOAA Weather Radio or local media.

This event comes amid an active spring season, where saturated ground from recent rains increases the likelihood of flash flooding. The NWS urges caution, especially at night when visibility is low.
