Austin, TX – Austin and San Antonio residents should prepare for a stormy weekend, as isolated to severe thunderstorms are expected to arrive late Saturday and continue into early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio office, breezy south winds Thursday night are drawing warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, creating favorable conditions for rain and thunderstorms beginning Friday night. The greatest threat of severe weather is forecast from Saturday night through early Sunday, with the potential for localized flooding, lightning, and strong wind gusts.
Scattered showers may begin earlier in the day Saturday, but storm activity is expected to become more widespread by nightfall. Sunday morning may still see lingering storms before skies begin to clear by afternoon. Daytime highs over the weekend will remain in the mid-70s to low 80s, with nighttime lows in the mid-60s.
Officials encourage residents to monitor local alerts, avoid low-water crossings during storms, and secure outdoor items. Although impacts on travel are expected to be minimal Friday, weather conditions Saturday night could lead to delays or hazardous driving.
Looking ahead, more rain is possible early next week, with another round of scattered thunderstorms forecast Tuesday. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware through the weekend.
