Tulsa, Oklahoma – Severe thunderstorms and the threat of flash flooding will make travel dangerous across eastern Oklahoma beginning Monday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, scattered strong storms could develop late Monday with the main threat shifting to widespread heavy rain and flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday. Storms may bring golf ball to tennis ball-sized hail, damaging winds up to 80 mph, and rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated amounts up to 8 inches, especially near Tulsa, Muskogee, and McAlester.

Cities like Tulsa, Bartlesville, and Muskogee face a slight to marginal severe risk Monday, with a higher chance for heavy rain Tuesday and Wednesday. Flooding will be a serious concern along major roadways including I-44, I-40, and U.S. 69. Residents in low-lying areas or near rivers should prepare for rapid water rises and remain alert for flood warnings.

Motorists are urged to avoid water-covered roads and “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Those in affected areas should secure outdoor objects, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Flash flooding could develop quickly during periods of intense rainfall, making early preparation essential.

Severe weather and flood watches are expected to continue through Wednesday night, with additional updates likely as conditions evolve.
