Grand Forks, North Dakota – Severe thunderstorms could hammer parts of eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota Monday afternoon, with threats of golf ball-sized hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a cold front moving through the region will trigger scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms across the southern Red River Valley, west-central Minnesota, and surrounding areas. Timing will be critical, as a slower-moving front could intensify storm impacts.

Cities such as Grand Forks, Fargo, and Bemidji could see the most significant effects, especially during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Large hail up to 1 inch in diameter, 60 mph wind gusts, and possible tornadoes are among the hazards. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor weather alerts closely, and plan for rapidly changing conditions.

Travelers along Interstate 29 and U.S. Highway 2 should prepare for sudden visibility reductions and hazardous driving. Power outages could occur in the hardest-hit areas if winds strengthen.

Storm warnings may be updated throughout the day as the front’s speed and intensity evolve. Residents should stay weather-aware and be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued.
