Amarillo, TX – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles until 8 a.m. Monday, followed by a High Wind Watch set to impact the region Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.
Visibility is expected to drop to a quarter mile or less in some areas, making travel hazardous overnight and early Monday morning. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
Following the fog, strong winds will develop. A High Wind Watch is in place for Cimarron, Dallam, Hartley, and Oldham counties starting Monday morning, with southwest winds reaching 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. On Tuesday, the strongest winds will shift to a larger portion of the Panhandle, including Amarillo, Dumas, Pampa, and Guymon, with northwest winds of 40 to 50 mph and gusts up to 70 mph.
These powerful winds could bring down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. High-profile vehicles may experience difficulty traveling on open roads. Residents should secure outdoor objects and monitor weather updates for further advisories.
Authorities urge the public to stay informed and take precautions as conditions evolve.
