Tulsa, OK – Severe thunderstorms are expected to begin across eastern Oklahoma starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, bringing the potential for golf ball-sized hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the highest impact window stretches from 6 p.m. Tuesday through midday Wednesday, with a second severe wave anticipated from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Communities across Tulsa, McAlester, Muskogee, and Fort Smith are urged to remain alert and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The storm system brings a mix of threats including hail up to 1.75 inches, wind gusts reaching 70 mph, and potential tornado development. Areas under an “elevated” risk level include Tulsa and Okmulgee, while surrounding counties face “slight” to “marginal” threat zones.

Emergency managers stress the importance of knowing shelter locations. If a tornado warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in a basement or an interior room without windows.

Residents should charge devices, monitor local alerts, and prepare for power outages. The timing and strength of these storms are not typical for early April, making it crucial to remain weather-aware overnight into Wednesday. Updates are available at weather.gov/tsa.
