TULSA, Okla. – A Tornado Watch has been issued for eastern Oklahoma, remaining active until 9 a.m. on Sunday. Residents in Tulsa, Muskogee, McAlester, and nearby areas should stay alert for severe weather risks, including potential tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa, the watch warns of possible tornadoes and isolated hail up to two inches in diameter. Strong wind gusts could reach speeds of up to 70 mph, posing significant hazards across highways like I-44 and I-40. The NWS advises residents to have emergency plans in place, as storms could rapidly intensify.
Given the Tornado Watch in effect today, residents in affected areas are urged to monitor local alerts and prepare for possible rapid sheltering. Schools and hospitals in the area, including nearly 1,200 schools and 109 hospitals, are within the impacted zone
