Norman, OK – A High Wind Warning is in effect for much of northern, western, and central Oklahoma, with damaging gusts up to 60 mph expected from 7 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday. Residents should prepare for potential power outages and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, affected counties include Canadian, Kingfisher, Caddo, Comanche, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Kiowa, Harper, Woods, Alfalfa, Grant, Kay, Ellis, Woodward, Major, Garfield, Noble, Roger Mills, Dewey, Custer, Blaine, Beckham, and Washita. Winds will range from 25 to 40 mph, with stronger gusts likely in open areas.

The strong winds could bring down trees and power lines, leading to widespread outages. Officials warn that high-profile vehicles may experience difficulty on highways, especially in rural and open areas where wind speeds are highest.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain indoors, particularly in lower levels of buildings away from windows. Drivers should exercise extreme caution, especially on east-west roads where crosswinds could be dangerous.

This wind event follows a series of spring weather disturbances across the region, with conditions expected to gradually improve late Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service advises staying updated through local forecasts and emergency alerts.
