Minco, Okla. – A mild earthquake rattled parts of central Oklahoma late Monday evening, with a 2.8 magnitude tremor striking about 4 kilometers northeast of Minco at a shallow depth of just 2.5 kilometers. While no damage or injuries have been reported, the quake was strong enough for some residents to feel the jolt.
According to the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the earthquake was recorded automatically by seismic sensors in the region. The shallow depth likely contributed to the shaking being felt in nearby communities, including areas west of Oklahoma City. So far, five residents have submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Local emergency officials say the tremor is a reminder of Oklahoma’s ongoing seismic activity, often linked to natural and industrial factors. While Tuesday’s quake was minor, residents are urged to check for any structural cracks and review home safety plans.
