Dry grass rustles along the Creek Turnpike this morning, and the air already feels warmer than late February should. Sunshine dominates Tulsa early, but the bigger concern builds by afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, limited fire weather danger develops this afternoon across eastern Oklahoma as temperatures climb into the low 70s. Relative humidity drops and north winds increase to 10 mph, creating conditions that could allow fires to spread more easily. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Even small sparks can travel in dry brush.
Highs reach 71 today, then jump to 78 Friday and near 81 Saturday. It will feel like a strong spring tease heading into the first weekend of March. Skies stay mostly clear through Friday night, giving way to increasing clouds Saturday afternoon.
Storm chances return late Saturday into Sunday. A 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Saturday night, followed by likely showers Sunday with highs cooling to 59 degrees. Gusty north winds up to 20 mph may follow the front Sunday night as temperatures drop near 40. Plan for wet roads along I-44 and U.S. 75 by early Sunday and again into Monday morning.
Rain chances linger into early next week, with additional thunderstorm potential Tuesday and Wednesday. Some heavy rain could develop depending on how the boundary stalls across the region.
Looking ahead into the 6–10 day period, temperatures trend closer to seasonal levels early next week before another push of warmth builds midweek.
