TULSA, Okla. — Communities across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas are under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday, with forecasters warning of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, destructive winds, and hail larger than golf balls.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch zone includes Tulsa, Muskogee, and McAlester in Oklahoma, extending east to Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Conway in Arkansas. Counties along I-40 and U.S. 412 face the highest risk as storms track northeast through the evening.
Officials warn that storms may develop rotation quickly, giving residents little time to react. Emergency managers are urging people to monitor weather alerts, avoid unnecessary travel, and know their shelter locations. Power outages and tree damage are possible, particularly in rural areas where strong winds can topple lines.
Travelers should be prepared for sudden road closures or low visibility from heavy downpours. Outdoor evening activities are strongly discouraged.
The tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m., and additional warnings could be issued if the storm system maintains strength into the overnight hours.
