Tulsa, OK – Strong northwesterly winds are sweeping across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas this morning, with gusts topping 40 mph and reaching near 50 mph in some areas. The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a Wind Advisory in effect through 1 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, gusts will be strongest along the Oklahoma–Kansas border and higher elevations of southeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Winds are expected to gradually ease later this afternoon as the pressure system shifts east.
Forecasters report sustained northwest winds of 20–30 mph, with isolated gusts near 50 mph capable of bringing down small tree limbs and unsecured outdoor items. Drivers of high-profile vehicles are advised to use extra caution, especially along east–west highways such as I-40 and U.S. 412.
Winds will taper off by late afternoon, offering calmer conditions overnight into Thursday. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations, trash bins, and patio furniture before gusts peak late Wednesday morning.
