Marysville, OH – The Union County Sheriff’s Office announced that its first women’s firearms safety courses are reaching capacity, with two October sessions now full and only limited availability remaining for the November 1 session.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the program is designed to educate and train women who are legally eligible to apply for a concealed handgun license. The course provides instruction in firearm safety, legal considerations for carrying concealed, and hands-on training with certified instructors.

Sheriff Mike Justice said the classes are intended to empower women in the community by giving them the confidence and skills necessary to safely carry and operate a firearm. Each session runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Union County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility in Marysville. Lunch is provided, and participation is capped at 10 women per class.

Applicants must pass a background check performed by the sheriff’s office at least 30 days prior to the course date. Background checks through Ohio’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation cost $35, while individuals who have lived outside Ohio within the past five years must complete an FBI check for $60.

The October 18 and October 25 courses are now full. As of this week, one spot remained for the November 1 course. Those interested are encouraged to contact Training Deputy Adam Haycox at ahaycox@unioncountyohio.gov or call the sheriff’s office at 937-645-4102 ext. 4442.

Officials said the courses may expand depending on community interest and participation.
