Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio residents should prepare for hazardous road conditions this morning as freezing rain spreads across the region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas south of I-90 and east of I-77, in effect until noon Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, freezing rain is expected to create slick and hazardous conditions on roadways, bridges, and untreated sidewalks. Ice accumulations of less than one-tenth of an inch are possible, posing risks for morning commuters and anyone traveling through the affected areas.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, particularly on elevated roadways and overpasses. The Ohio Department of Transportation advises motorists to reduce speeds, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel until road conditions improve.

Looking ahead to the week, temperatures will moderate as showers persist into Monday, with highs reaching the mid-50s. Monday night brings a slight chance of lingering showers, followed by clearer conditions on Tuesday. Highs for Tuesday will remain mild at 43°F, with mostly sunny skies offering a brief reprieve from the wet pattern.

Showers are expected to return midweek, particularly on Wednesday and Wednesday night, with a chance of rain and snow mixing as temperatures drop into the 20s overnight. Roads may again turn slippery during late-night commutes.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local authorities and the National Weather Service for ongoing changes to the forecast. Stay safe and plan travel carefully.
