Chicago, IL – Dense fog is blanketing much of northeast and central Illinois this morning, with visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less, especially near and northwest of I-55. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distances, and use low beams to navigate hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until noon Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, the most severe fog will linger until late morning, with the worst visibility expected between 6 AM and 11 AM. Travelers in areas surrounding Chicago, Joliet, and Naperville are advised to prepare for slower commute times. Patches of drizzle will also contribute to slick roadways, further complicating travel.

The fog will begin to lift around midday as winds shift and visibility improves. However, patchy fog and areas of drizzle may persist into the afternoon, keeping roadways damp. Highs will hover around 43°F Sunday, with light south-southeast winds at 5-10 mph.

Week Ahead Forecast:

Monday: A 30% chance of rain in the afternoon, highs near 50°F. Winds will gust up to 30 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with calmer conditions, highs near 42°F.

Wednesday: Partly sunny and cooler, highs around 38°F.

Tuesday Night: A chance for rain and snow mix, with lows dipping to 32°F.

Residents should remain cautious throughout the morning and allow extra travel time. For updates, check the latest advisories from the National Weather Service.
