Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers across northern Ohio may encounter wet roads and periods of reduced visibility beginning late Wednesday night as a more active weather pattern brings several rounds of showers and thunderstorms into the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, thunderstorms may develop Tuesday evening before a broader area of showers and storms spreads across northern Ohio late Wednesday into Thursday. The unsettled pattern is expected to affect much of the region, including Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Toledo, Lorain, Sandusky and Youngstown.

Temperatures will remain relatively mild, with highs climbing into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees Wednesday ahead of the next round of storms. Thunderstorm coverage is expected to increase overnight Wednesday before becoming more widespread Thursday as a weather system moves through the Great Lakes.

While specific rainfall amounts and severe weather details remain uncertain, repeated rounds of storms could produce localized ponding on roadways during heavier downpours, particularly in urban and poor-drainage areas. Commuters along Interstate 71, Interstate 77, Interstate 80 and the Ohio Turnpike should monitor conditions closely if traveling during periods of rain.

Residents planning outdoor activities Wednesday night or Thursday should keep a close eye on updated forecasts and be prepared to move indoors if thunderstorms approach. Lightning remains a hazard even in non-severe storms.

The active weather pattern is expected to gradually ease by Friday, when drier conditions and partly sunny skies return to much of northern Ohio. Additional forecast updates and any advisories will be issued as confidence in storm timing increases.
