WILMINGTON, Ohio – A stretch of unseasonably hot September weather will grip southwest Ohio Friday, bringing near-90-degree highs and potential travel concerns for drivers along I-71. The warming trend arrives just as the weekend begins, raising concerns about heat fatigue for outdoor workers and motorists during peak travel times.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, sunshine will dominate Friday with temperatures climbing to 83°F, followed by 84°F on Saturday and a steamy 88°F by Sunday. Winds will stay light, but the heat could still strain vehicles and increase risks for drivers stuck in traffic along I-71 and local routes through Clinton County.

Commuters and weekend travelers should plan ahead. Check vehicles for coolant and tire pressure before long trips. Stay hydrated if working outdoors or attending high school football games across the region Friday evening.

Friday night brings mostly clear skies with lows near 55°F, offering mild relief before heat builds again Saturday. By Sunday, sunshine and highs near 90 will mark one of the hottest stretches of September so far, potentially stressing sensitive groups such as the elderly.

The heat will linger into early next week with highs staying in the mid-80s through Wednesday. More sunny days mean continued comfort for evening events, but also heightened fire risk in dry fields across southwest Ohio.

Warnings remain in effect for unusually hot conditions through early next week, with no rain relief expected until midweek.
