Ohio — Gray clouds hang low over the Ohio River this morning, and the air feels damp and raw. Pavement stays cold as the region edges toward the final hours of 2025, with winter quietly setting traps for drivers.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are expected to develop later today across southwest Ohio, including the Cincinnati metro. Snow may linger into the evening hours before tapering off. Accumulation remains limited, generally less than one inch, but timing could still affect travel.
Even light snow can create problems. Roads may briefly turn slick, especially on bridges and elevated ramps along I-71, I-75, and I-74. Reduced visibility is possible during bursts of snow. Drivers should slow down and leave extra space between vehicles.
Temperatures hover near freezing through the day, then fall into the lower 20s tonight. Any moisture left on roads could refreeze, creating isolated black ice spots before New Year’s Day 2026 begins. Walking surfaces may also become slick.
Conditions improve quickly on New Year’s Day. Skies turn mostly sunny, and snow exits the region. Despite the sunshine, it stays chilly. Afternoon highs reach the lower 30s, with cold air lingering into the evening.
Friday brings a noticeable rebound. Sunshine dominates, and highs climb toward the upper 30s. The first weekend of 2026 looks quiet and seasonable. Saturday stays partly sunny with mid-30s temperatures, while Sunday trends slightly milder, approaching 40.
Plan ahead if you’re traveling later today or heading out for celebrations. Watch for slick spots, especially after dark, and dress warmly as temperatures drop.
