Lima, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph could move across northwest Ohio overnight, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch through 2 a.m. Monday and raising concerns for tree damage and sudden travel hazards.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 56 was issued at 6:40 p.m. EDT and includes Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, and Williams counties. The watch signals that atmospheric conditions support severe storms capable of damaging winds and intense lightning overnight.
Cities within the watch area include Lima, Defiance, Wauseon, Napoleon, Van Wert and Bryan. Drivers along U.S. Route 30 and Interstate 75 near Lima could encounter sudden heavy rain and sharply reduced visibility if storms intensify later this evening.
Local emergency managers urge residents to secure outdoor items and keep mobile alerts enabled overnight. Charging phones and preparing for possible brief power outages is also recommended if stronger wind gusts develop.
The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Monday as storms track east across northern Ohio. Additional warnings could be issued quickly if storms strengthen.
