Cleveland, Ohio – Beach plans along Lake Erie could take a dangerous turn Saturday as strong currents create a high swim risk from Lorain to Ashtabula.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, hazardous weather isn’t expected Friday, but starting Saturday morning, elevated wave action and stronger-than-usual currents will develop along the lakeshore. The warning covers north central and northeast Ohio, particularly lakeside counties including Cuyahoga, Lake, and Ashtabula.
Today will be partly sunny with highs near 68°F, but showers and thunderstorms are likely to roll through the region after 9 p.m. Rainfall totals are expected to stay under a tenth of an inch in most places, though isolated storms could bring heavier pockets. West winds will pick up overnight and shift northwest by Saturday, reaching up to 20 mph near the shoreline.
If you’re heading to the beach, use caution — swimming could quickly become dangerous even under sunny skies. Lifeguard staffing may vary by location, and flag warnings should be strictly followed.
Spotter activation is not expected, and no additional alerts are in place as of this morning, but updates may follow if wind conditions intensify.
