Cleveland, OH – Dangerous ice conditions are developing along the Lake Erie shoreline and will persist through Saturday evening. Strong southwesterly winds between 15 to 25 mph are expected to break ice away from the southern shore, posing severe safety risks. Authorities are strongly advising residents and visitors to stay off the ice entirely.
According to the US National Weather Service, anyone on the ice when it breaks could be stranded, requiring rescue. This advisory is critical for those in areas such as Cleveland, Toledo, and Erie, where wind gusts may reach up to 25 mph. Conditions are especially risky near access points along the shoreline.
Snow showers are forecast for Saturday, with highs near 33 degrees and wind chills dropping as low as 5 degrees. Overnight temperatures will fall to 23 degrees. Sunday will bring partly cloudy skies with a high near 28, while Monday is expected to be breezy and mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-30s. Snow showers may return Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 30-40% chance of precipitation.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel near the lake and monitor weather updates for changing conditions. Prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility due to snow showers. For those venturing outside, dress in layers to protect against cold temperatures.
