Indianapolis, Indiana – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of the Ohio Valley, with accumulating snow expected Tuesday across southern Indiana and nearby areas of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, snow is forecast to develop Tuesday morning and continue into the evening hours, with total accumulations up to two inches in parts of Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson, and Jennings counties. The advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.

Forecasters say the snow will be driven by a narrow band capable of producing moderate to briefly heavy snowfall rates. There remains uncertainty regarding the exact placement of this band, meaning some locations could receive less snow while others see higher totals if the band shifts north or south.

While accumulation amounts are not expected to be extreme, even one to two inches of snow could create slippery road conditions, particularly during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to be the most impacted.

Cities included in the advisory area include Columbus, Greensburg, Seymour, and North Vernon. The advisory also serves as an early indicator of a broader Ohio Valley pattern that could extend impacts into parts of Kentucky and West Virginia if the snow band shifts eastward later Tuesday or Tuesday night.

Drivers are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Road conditions can change quickly under heavier snow bursts.

The National Weather Service recommends monitoring updated forecasts and local advisories as confidence in snowfall placement improves. Travelers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 5-1-1 in their state.
