Louisville, Kentucky – A line of storms arriving late Monday night could bring damaging winds and sudden travel disruptions across the Ohio Valley, with impacts beginning shortly after 9 p.m. and intensifying overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, warm and quiet conditions through Monday afternoon will give way to strengthening winds and an approaching storm system. Wind gusts will increase to 20 to 30 mph during the day Monday before storms organize west of the region and move in after sunset.
The primary threat Monday night will be strong to severe wind gusts, especially west of I-65, including areas near Bowling Green and Elizabethtown. Storms could produce gusts near 60 mph, capable of downing tree limbs and power lines. Travel along I-65, I-64, and the Western Kentucky Parkway may be impacted by heavy rain, debris, and reduced visibility overnight.
A second round of storms is expected Tuesday afternoon, beginning around 2 p.m., with additional risks for gusty winds and hail across Louisville, Jeffersonville, and southern Indiana. While storms may weaken into the evening, they could still affect the late-day commute.
Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and enable weather alerts before going to sleep Monday night. Avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm periods.
Storms will taper late Tuesday, followed by gradual improvement, though additional updates are expected as timing and intensity become clearer.
