Cincinnati, Ohio – Rainfall returns to the Ohio Valley beginning Friday, raising concerns for river flooding and waterlogged roads through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, widespread rainfall between 0.5 and 1 inch is expected across the region through Tuesday, with some pockets possibly exceeding 3 inches. This surge comes as parts of Indiana are already experiencing minor flooding along rivers, prompting Action Stage alerts at more than a dozen river gauges.

Minor flood impacts are forecast in counties along the Ohio River and its tributaries, particularly in southern Indiana and western Ohio. Roadways near streams and creeks could become impassable, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Local residents are urged to avoid driving through standing water and monitor updates from emergency management officials.

Rainfall totals and timing may vary, but the saturation of local basins could trigger additional flood stage rises. Those near flood-prone zones should secure outdoor belongings and prepare for short-notice warnings if rainfall intensifies.

Rising waters may persist through midweek as more rain is projected. Additional advisories are likely, especially if rainfall totals approach 3 inches by Tuesday.
