Atlanta, Georgia – Afternoon thunderstorms are expected to hammer much of Georgia daily through Father’s Day weekend, with high chances of locally heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds disrupting outdoor plans across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the typical summer storm pattern has returned, bringing 70% to 85% rain chances each evening in cities like Atlanta, Macon, and Rome. While severe weather isn’t expected, storms could intensify quickly and bring dangerous lightning and localized flooding.

In Macon, rain chances peak at 85% Thursday night and remain high into Sunday evening. Rome faces a 75% to 80% likelihood of measurable rainfall over the weekend, while Atlanta can expect similar afternoon spikes in activity. Columbus and Athens will also see elevated evening storm activity, especially from Friday through Sunday.

Travel delays, power outages, and flooded streets are possible during peak storm hours, typically from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Residents are urged to stay alert during outdoor events and remember the safety rule: “When thunder roars, go indoors.”

This active pattern is expected to hold through Tuesday evening, June 17. More updates may follow if storm intensities increase or localized flooding develops.
