Cincinnati, Ohio – Heavy rain and gusty winds will hammer the Ohio Valley through Friday, sparking flood concerns in several low-lying areas as severe thunderstorms roll across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, scattered storms could produce localized rainfall totals of 2 to 2.5 inches, with widespread amounts around 1 inch. The system is expected to exit the region Saturday, but not before prompting additional rises along rivers in western parts of the valley, including southern Indiana, western Ohio, and parts of Kentucky.

Flood risks are focused on counties already seeing saturated ground and rising water levels. Minor flooding and river rises to “Action Stage” are possible along sections of the Scioto, Wabash, and Green Rivers. Cities including Evansville, Louisville, and Portsmouth should monitor local alerts closely.

Residents in flood-prone areas should avoid travel through standing water, secure outdoor items, and have emergency kits ready. Power outages are possible due to wind gusts accompanying storms.

The heaviest rainfall is expected late Thursday into Friday morning. River levels may continue rising even after storms pass. Further advisories may be issued as the system evolves.
