Brattleboro, VT – A wave of rain and thunderstorms will sweep across Vermont and western Massachusetts starting late Thursday, bringing a wet and unsettled pattern through early Saturday that could disrupt weekend travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, precipitation chances jump significantly after midnight Thursday, with Brattleboro, Bennington, and Pittsfield seeing a 60% to 85% chance of rain and storms by Friday afternoon. The heaviest rain is expected Friday night into early Saturday, with locally heavy downpours possible in higher elevations and valley communities.

In Brattleboro and Bennington, temperatures will hover in the upper 60s to mid-70s through the weekend, while towns like Pittsfield and North Adams may struggle to break 65°F during peak rain periods. Thunderstorms could cause brief localized flooding in poorly drained areas and reduce visibility on highways including Route 9 and I-91.

Residents should secure outdoor items, delay weekend travel if possible, and remain alert for potential lightning and gusty winds during stronger storm cells. While skies will begin to clear by Sunday, another chilly morning is expected with lows in the 40s.

Rain chances taper off by Saturday evening, but additional advisories are possible if storm coverage intensifies.
