Charleston, West Virginia – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across southeast Ohio and portions of West Virginia Saturday afternoon, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a cold front moving into the Ohio Valley will reintroduce unstable conditions by the weekend. A marginal risk for severe weather has been issued for southeast Ohio and adjoining areas of West Virginia, including Athens, Marietta, Huntington, and Parkersburg. The greatest threat is expected Saturday afternoon into early evening.

Wind gusts may reach damaging levels in isolated storms, and residents could see small hail or brief downpours. Outdoor events in the region—especially in counties along the Ohio-West Virginia border—may be impacted by rapidly changing weather conditions.

Drivers should stay alert for slick roads and reduced visibility during any bursts of rain. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture, keep phones charged, and monitor weather alerts throughout the day Saturday.

The threat is expected to taper off Saturday night as the front clears, but additional advisories may be issued if storm development intensifies.
