Tulsa, Okla. – Multiple rounds of heavy rain could trigger flash flooding across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas this weekend, with up to 8 inches possible in some areas by Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Widespread rainfall totals between 2 and 6 inches are likely, with localized bands reaching up to 8 inches. The most significant impacts are expected in low-lying areas, especially near creeks, rivers, and poor-drainage zones.

Communities along the I-44 and I-40 corridors—including Tulsa, Muskogee, Okmulgee, McAlester, and Fort Smith—could see road closures, stalled vehicles, and rapid rises in water levels. Residents in Bartlesville, Miami, Fayetteville, and Poteau should prepare for potential flood conditions, especially during overnight hours when visibility is low.

Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to monitor alerts throughout the weekend. Preparedness tips include charging devices, having an evacuation plan, and being ready to move to higher ground if needed.

The Flood Watch remains active through Sunday evening. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall rates intensify.
