Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Confidence continues to rise that a major winter storm will bring widespread heavy snow to western Pennsylvania this weekend, prompting Winter Storm Warnings across the entire region and raising concerns about hazardous travel and prolonged disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, Winter Storm Warnings are in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday through noon Monday. Forecast confidence is now high that warning-level snowfall will impact the entire area, with most locations expected to receive at least 6 inches of snow. Some areas could see significantly higher totals, especially where snowfall persists longest or intensifies.

Snow is expected to develop Saturday evening and continue through Monday, with the heaviest snowfall rates likely occurring Sunday. The prolonged nature of the storm means roads could remain snow-covered for extended periods, making travel difficult to dangerous. The Pittsburgh metro area, along with surrounding communities including Washington, Beaver, Butler, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties, will all be impacted.

Forecasters note that uncertainty now centers mainly on how far north the heaviest snow band sets up and whether parts of the West Virginia ridges approach two feet of total snowfall. Even outside those higher-end areas, impacts are expected to be significant due to the duration of snowfall and cold temperatures that will limit melting.

Residents are urged to complete preparations before Saturday evening, avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm, and prepare for lingering impacts into Monday. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect, and additional updates are expected as the storm approaches.
