Davenport, Iowa – Dangerous Arctic cold continues to grip the Quad Cities region, with bitter wind chills expected to linger into Saturday morning and creating a continued risk for frostbite and frozen pipes.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect area-wide from Friday afternoon through noon Saturday. Wind chill values are expected to range from 15 to 30 degrees below zero across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, making outdoor exposure hazardous even for short periods of time.
The coldest conditions are expected overnight into early Saturday morning, when winds will combine with already frigid temperatures to produce life-threatening cold. Cities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and surrounding communities will all feel the effects of the prolonged Arctic air mass.
Forecasters warn that frostbite can develop quickly on exposed skin, and frozen pipes are a growing concern as temperatures remain well below normal. Any moisture on roadways may also refreeze, creating slick spots on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks.
Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in multiple layers with hats and gloves, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Pets should be brought indoors, and exposed pipes should be protected. While some moderation is expected later Saturday, dangerously cold conditions may return again later in the weekend.
Cold weather advisories remain in effect through Saturday midday, and residents should continue monitoring updates in case headlines are extended.
